The province has a new town

On January 11, 1922, the new Town of Île-Cadieux is legally created at the request of William R. Eakin, Nelson W. Howard and William G. Bailey, all residents of Montreal.

The first meetings of the new municipal council were held in the private homes of W. R. Eakin or N. W. Howard in Montreal during the winter and on Cadieux Island during the summer. The first concern is to build a new bridge of sufficient strength to allow car traffic. This bridge was built in 1924 as well as a road crossing the island on most of its extent. In December 1964, the metal bridge was replaced by the current two-lane concrete bridge, which allows traffic to flow in both directions.

The circumstances surrounding the establishment of the town hall are still unknown. It would seem that the Lake of Two Mountains Yacht Club building was used as the town hall for a few years. Then, around 1941, the building was moved to its present location, part of which is inhabited by the Poirier family. At the time, the building consisted of two parts. In the back there was a two-story building used as a residence and in the front, the present building with a large gallery. In 1952, major renovations were carried out, including the demolition of the rear residence and the large gallery.

The 1960s marked the arrival of modernity on the island. Landscaping is carried out with the installation of street lights and the installation of a water system. The island will also be in the front row during the construction of the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge in 1965.
